Asphalt 8: Airborne is a driving simulation game from Gameloft that represents a good upgrade from the previous version. The vast majority of the cars in the game have been updated, and despite the fact that the player doesn't have access to all the cars when they first start, they can unlock those better vehicles as the game progresses and they earn points.

There are a total of 47 vehicles in this game, and each one of them can be painted and customized for the player. Most of the vehicles have an excellent design, and they are as close to their real-world counterparts as they can possibly be. Players who don't want to wait to earn all the points necessary to unlock the best vehicles can use in-app purchases to speed the process up exponentially.

This game also provides a number of awesome environments, including London, Venice, Tokyo, Monaco, Barcelona, Iceland, the Alps, and French Guyana. Like most racing games, certain tracks have hidden paths that can drastically cut down the circuit time and help the players put more distance between themselves and the opponents.

With three distinct game modes, the player is sure to never lose interest. The primary mode is the career mode, and that includes 180 events spread out over eight racing seasons. The second game mode is the quick race mode, which allows players to get in a quick few laps during some brief downtime. Lastly, the multiplayer mode pits up to twelve players against each other online or over WiFi with local players.

The gameplay in this version is still based on the classic arcade style, and it includes most of the common racing elements like nitro boost, power-up items along the circuits, and the ability to drift and launch the vehicle high into the air. There are springboards littering the game, and they are meant to help the player make their car go airborne, hence the name of this title. While in the air, you can perform stunts that will earn even more points.

The controls for this game are entirely customizable, and by default the player will use the touchscreen controls. There is also an option to use the internal accelerometer to use tilting action to control the vehicle. It is even possible to use a combination of both styles.

The graphics for this game are truly standout since they use smooth animation and amazing physics. When your vehicle collides with another, the game automatically goes into to slow motion to show in greater detail exactly what is happening. The score for the game is catchy and customizable as well with three different styles. While this game hasn't change much since the older versions, the inclusion of airborne action and multiplayer competitions makes this one not to miss.
